Experience 07 — Ocean
An ocean
of pure math.
There is no water in this scene. The swell rolling to the horizon is a flat grid of points, lifted into waves by summed sine functions on the GPU — and the sun glittering across it is a single line of shader code.
Waves without
a drop of water.
Every crest and trough is a sum of sine waves added in the vertex shader, scrolling forward as you read. Displace a plane, colour it by height, and the sea appears.
The sun is
one equation.
That path of light burning across the swell is a sharp specular term aimed at a fake sun on the horizon — no reflection map, no texture, just the angle between you and the light.
